Greeting from Haiti!!!
I know you are anxiously to hear from me since I left America to be in Haiti last Oct 17th. 3.5 weeks has passed so quickly. As I arrived and there were team coming at the same time so I was with them the rest of week teaching Deaf community in Leveque a "Fruit of Spirit" for 4 days. First Monday morning, at the beginning there were only 5 people coming in and we told them to go spread words out that we will providing refreshment and lunch. And in 30 min later 55 people showed up and we weren't expecting but only Lord knows and we weren't sure if our providing lunch will be enough for everyone. But surely we did. Wow, how did that happen.. Its amazing..
The rest of week, we have had average 55 people attending to learn about "Fruit of Spirit" . We encouraging them to have a little drama relating to each word of "Fruit of Spirit". So fun to watch them to performed and show their hungry to learn more about each word.
Pastor Chris from Maryland (we went on a same trip 3 years ago) came and had training with 4 Haitian Pastor at the "New Life Center" in PAP. He heard that I am in Haiti and begged me to come and stayed with team at the NLC for two night.
So at the end of the teaching week, we all were so exhausted and somehow the power at the NLC went out as their generator fused burned out so we had no electricity at all during the night until in the morning. At about 8am, the power went back on. That's Haitian culture.. We will never know what to expect next. We just have to trust the Lord...
We stopped by Grace Village in Titanyen to look around the building as our founder Kathryn and some of us to get better vision of what would better for the new property for the future home of deaf children.. I met few of Healing Haiti staff. It was so good to see them then saw Elisa who is in charge of Healing Haiti in Haiti. Then saw Amy Peterson and Mike Cody lead HH team. Fun day to see everyone I know.
As the team left to America, I went back to the Haiti Deaf Academy (HDA) in Cabaret, where I am residing at. I finally settle down and start doing some training to know what my roles are. As my roles keep changing to try to fit what this place really need.
Right now, I'm focusing on oversee this place with staff and children to make sure they are doing things right..
In few days I will be going to Leveque to oversee the Carpentry crew to guide them in anyway they are struggling with woodworking. There were 2 teachers taking turn with about 5 adults that are learning the carpentry. So they can get a job in the future. Also will be teaching them on how to do the budget so they can prepare to live on their own sometime in near future.
Some of the kids at HDA keep asking when some of our past summer team are coming as they are looking forward to see them.. They remember one of our leader Jeremy doing the tricks. It was so funny to watch them doing the tricks..
In the photo, they used coal to put in the iron to iron the clothes. Really interesting to watch them ironing the clothes daily by using coal..
Talk to you soon,,,
Bob
